Introducing Not Entirely Stable

Human-AI misalignment in a galaxy far, far away.

Have you heard about this thing called AI?

I can’t tell you how many articles I’ve read over the past six months about AI in tech. Filled with a rotating mix of curiosity, dread, and ennui, I’ve been trying to keep up with the many discussions and hot takes from designers, thought leaders, and cynics. To be working in tech right now this is nuts. Sticking your head in the sand is not an option—this technology is already changing how individuals and companies operate.

If I weren’t a millennial, this generation-defining” technology might actually terrify me.

Instead, I find myself circling the same questions. What is this technology really doing? What lasting role will it play in our work? What role do we designers still play? What impact will it have on the world at large? Will it fulfill the potential we’re promised?

Will it deem humanity useless and destroy us all? 😐

With that in mind, I’m creating a new segment of this blog as an ongoing attempt to explore some of these questions. I’m calling it Not Entirely Stable: Continued Reflections on AI. Because yes, Star Wars.

Not entirely stable—the analysis from C-3PO in The Empire Strikes Back on the stability of an asteroid landing site, swiftly dismissed by Han Solo. Not entirely stable—the current state of the AI market, full of speculation and grand promises. Not entirely stable—my confidence that AI will have a meaningful, positive impact on technology and humanity as a whole.

Does anyone read this blog? Who knows. I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe. But let this act as a personal log of my thoughts on this wild, evolving technology. Stay tuned.
