December is my favorite month of the year. It's cliché but true—experiencing Christmas through a child's eyes is a true joy. Work is slowing down, baking is picking up, and Christmas music is plentiful. I can't wait to spend the last weeks of the year in the city with family and friends.
At work we launched a major visual design update in our app that I'm very proud of. It includes a new UI color palette and a few other bells and whistles aimed at creating a more polished and cohesive brand experience. It was a great collaboration between departments and gave visibility to our little design team. I made this silly hype video to drum up some company-wide excitement.
I'm currently reading Mike Monteiro's Design Is a Job: The Necessary Second Edition. I read the first edition many years ago and I'm very happy to be reading the second one with more design experience. Lots of great stuff in there for designers in today's world. I got copies for my design team.
After nearly a decade with the same gear, I've upgraded my home stereo system. Prioritizing a small footprint (and honoring my husband's wishes), I'm now using a preamp from Schiit, a streaming amplifier from WiiM, and speakers from KEF. To say I'm excited is an understatement.
I’m still in the middle of writing a book to celebrate my son’s adoption story and hope to make progress on it in the new year.
This is a /now page, updated December 18. Happy New Year! 🎉
